Innovation and Elegance: Flamenco meets Classic

The composer, pianist and singer, Miriam Méndez, comes from one of the most traditional Spanish flamenco families. She started her musical education at the age of three, which she later continued with musicians such as Lazar Berman, Ricardo Chailly, Joaquín Achúcarro and Vladimir Ashkenazy. In 2005, she was the first pianist who dared to combine classical music with flamenco: her album Bach por Flamenco was a joint venture with producer and multiple Grammy Award Winner Michael Haas. The subsequent tour (which consisted of 107 concerts in Spain) was sponsored by BMW. She has collaborated with musicians such as Chick Corea, Michel Camilo, Vladimir Spiwakow, Andrea Gawrilow, McCoy Tyner, Jerry González, Jorge Pardo, Javier Colina and Tino di Geraldo, among others. In 2014, she recorded the album Flamenco’s Seduction with Bob Belden, producer of the “Blue Notes”, through which her compositions shine. The following year, she presented her new work Compassion in the Auditiorio Nazionale di Roma. During her Chinese Tour in 2016, she was named the “Princess of Flamenco” by Chinese media. In Regensburg, she will appear as the “Princesa descalza” – barefoot on the stage as she invites us on a journey to the roots of flamenco. Encounters with Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Lionel Richie and Hollywood will be stations along the way. She will be accompanied by musicians José Ruiz Motos “Bandolero” (percussionist for, among others, Antonio Canales, Sara Baras, Joaquín Cortés, Diego El Cigala, Vicente Amigo, Pepe Habichuela, Chano Domínguez and Path Metheny) and Iván Ruiz Machado (bassist for artists such as Lionel Richie, Black Rose Quartett, Sandra Pires, Iris Camaa (Tangerine Dream), Jorge Pardo, Orishas, Chester Washington (Earth Wind & Fire), Pitingo, Juan and Josemi Carmona (Ketama) and India Martínez).
